We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Educator with a background in social work and or experience working with trauma-affected youth. This managerial role involves mentoring and facilitating workshops designed to support the emotional, social, and academic development of youth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and be skilled in creating a safe and nurturing environment for youth to thrive.
The successful candidate possesses excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, and ability to build relationships and interface with persons from a variety of backgrounds. Must be detail oriented, an independent self-starter, an advocate for girls and boys of color and have a positive outlook and can-do attitude. Must also have a love of learning, be highly energetic, creative, a problem-solver, negotiator, and have the ability to work an evening and weekend schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
Managerial Duties:
Supervise Program Staff: Oversee and support staff involved in the mentoring and workshop facilitation programs, providing guidance and professional development opportunities.
Program Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, using data to inform improvements and adjustments.
Resource Management: Manage program resources, including, supplies, and materials, ensuring efficient and effective use.
Conflict Resolution: Address and resolve conflicts that arise within the program, involving participants, staff, or stakeholders, maintaining a positive and productive environment.
Strategic Planning: Contribute to the strategic planning and vision of the program, aligning activities with organizational goals and mission.
Compliance and Safety: Ensure that all program activities comply with organizational policies, legal regulations, and safety standards.
Mentorship:
Build trusting relationships with youth, providing consistent and empathetic support.
Offer one-on-one and group mentoring sessions, focusing on personal growth, resilience, and coping strategies.
Help youth set and achieve personal and academic goals.
Act as a positive role model, demonstrating healthy behavior and decision-making.
Workshop Facilitation:
Develop and deliver engaging, interactive workshops tailored to the needs of trauma-affected youth.
Address topics such as emotional regulation, self-esteem, conflict resolution, and healthy relationships.
Utilize creative methods (e.g., art, music, role-playing) to engage participants and foster a supportive group dynamic.
Adjust workshop content to be culturally relevant and inclusive.
Program Development:
Collaborate with program staff to design and refine curriculum that meets the needs of the youth served.
Incorporate feedback from participants to continually improve program offerings.
Stay informed about best practices in trauma-informed care and youth development.
Case Management:
Conduct assessments to identify the needs and strengths of each youth.
Develop individualized action plans and track progress.
Coordinate with external services (e.g., mental health professionals, social services) as needed to provide comprehensive support.
Community Building:
Foster a sense of community and belonging among participants.
Encourage peer support and positive interactions among youth.
Plan and participate in community-building activities and events.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions, workshop attendance, and participant progress.
Prepare reports and documentation as required by program guidelines.
Communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, and other stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum of 3-4 years of experience working with trauma-affected youth.
Minimum of 3-4 years of experience managing programs and staff.
Strong understanding of trauma-informed care and youth development principles.
Strong understanding of leadership development
Excellent, communication skills.
Ability to create a safe and supportive environment for youth.
Experience in mentoring, counseling, or case management.
Skilled in facilitating workshops and group activities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Preferred Skills:
Certification in trauma-informed care or youth counseling.
Bilingual abilities (preferred but not required).
Experience with creative therapeutic techniques (e.g., art therapy, music therapy).
